ABOUT HANOVER IRON WORKS
Hanover Iron Works has been fabricating and erecting customized steel stairways, rails, and other miscellaneous metal components in the South Central Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Northern Virginia commercial markets for more than 60 years.
We are among the bastions of the American made movement in an increasingly global economy, employing local craftspeople and purchasing primarily domestic steel.
What sets Hanover apart is the ability to simplify the lives of the general contractor and architect clients we serve by delivering a turnkey experience from submittal and detailing to erection. This is only made possible through flawless communication between our departments and with our clients.
THE CUSTOMER FIRST APPROACH
The versatility of our employees, many of whom have been here for decades, is pivotal. They occupy a unique niche as skilled old world artisans with the ability to adapt to the ever-changing, technology-driven built environment.
The Hanover team takes pride in adapting to the changing needs of our customers and marketplace as well. Regardless of whether high-volume, production-based or custom design-build products, the need for cost-effective, deadline-driven, flawless craftsmanship remains the same. When the industry gravitated toward bigger, better, faster, and stronger, Hanover expanded the product mix to include a multitude of materials and finishes. From standby steel to aluminum and stainless steel, all are engineered to perfection.
Hanover has been the gold standard for steel stairs and handrails since 1952. Our mission is to detail and fabricate to the exacting standards our customers have come to expect to preserve the legacy we have forged.
Harry Walter launches Hanover Iron Works, a residential rail business, from his basement. His son Richard was the lone employee in the early days.
After Harry’s passing, unwilling to abandon his father’s legacy, Richard takes over the reins.
Hanover Iron Works expands its offerings to include stairs and miscellaneous metals. With this growth, the company acquires eight acres of land in Hanover, PA, to build a spacious 18,000-sq-ft space.
Richard sells Hanover Iron Works to his son, Rex, who has been a part of the company since 1979. As the company continues the grow, a 5,000-sq-ft addition is constructed.
Rex Walter sells the business and under new management, Hanover Iron Works continues to grow.
The current owner expanded the shop and added on an Office addition. The Shop goes from 24,173 SF to its current size of 38,031 SF. The Office addition has the Office currently at 5,880 SF.
In September Hanover expanded the business South to Richmond, VA. The shop is a 21,250 SF facility located on the outskirts of Richmond to help us further serve the Virginia area.
The Hanover Iron Works experience begins with the submittal and detailing process. The lynchpin of this stage is communication.
We work closely with the designer to analyze the architectural drawings within the context of the overall project scope.
We are driven by the need to achieve perfection, regardless of the components are incorporated into the project.
Hanover Iron Works takes a very hands-on process that hinges on the expertise of our craftspeople.
